Bonding and building meaningful connections is what we do best at KTH.

We've been quiet on the old Insta for a bit, but we are still here and still meeting as a group offering peer to peer support.
Outwith this we've had some other things going on which we'll update on over the next few days.
We meet every 2nd Sunday at the Blantyre Soccer Academy Hub from 2pm onwards.
As well as this, through the connections made with each other some of the group meet ad-hoc during the week which is arranged via our WhatsApp group chat.
As ever, if you are struggling then don't sit in silence, reach out, talk, ask for help and get connected. We're always here!

A busy day for team KTH and podcasts. KTH group member David sat down with Ros and Paul from @maccounselling to record for their Mac and chat podcast on his own journey and how Keep The Heid came about. Fellow KTH group member Paul also had his podcast with @binge_with_catrina go live this morning. Paul shared his inspiring story of addiction and how he lives life in recovery today. We had a fantastic day celebrating our 1st birthday.
Thanks to all who came along. It was beautiful to see people bring their families and friends which showed the ripple effect a group like ours has in our homes and communities.
Massive thanks to everyone who has been part of this journey so far. For giving up their time over the last year to help us.
Thanks to Councillor Maureen Chalmers and MSP Clare Haughey for coming along today.
What was evident today was that this is more than a group. Its a community, a place where camaraderie shines through, friendships made and connections created.
Over the last year we've shared stories, tears, fears, smiles and laughter. We've created trust amongst each other.
It's a beautiful thing!!
We've had people say the group has saved their life, pulled them back from the brink of no return. We'll continue to do this as we go forward.

Keep The Heid has become more than just a Sunday afternoon meeting. We've seen friends being made, connections blossom and real peer to peer support taking place!

This Sunday we are having an open day from 12noon

This Sunday we are having an open day from 12noon -4pm. This is to celebrate the group being one year on the go.
This will be an opportunity for those who attend to bring family along as we are aware the ripple effect people getting well can have in families and the wider community.

Its also an opportunity for people who may want to know more about the group, or if you feel someone you know may benefit from the group, then come along and meet us.

If you are from another group and want to know more about us, please come along.

We'll have refreshments and some food on the day.

We'll give you some background on the group and hear some of the things we have coming up.

One year ago today, 6 guys sat round a table and had an idea.
That idea was to create a group that would do its part to break the stigma around men's mental health. To lead by example that it was okay for men to talk about how they feel. To say they're not okay.
We wanted to create a safe place that men could come and talk openly, free of judgement.
Our values are that of empathy, inclusiveness, non judgemental, confidentiality.
And from that, Keep The Heid was founded.
Over the last year we've grown organically. We've had guys tell us the group has saved their life. We've had guys that were previously isolated now part of our community we've created.

We've seen something quite beautiful and joyous grow in this last year.

We'll continue to grow ...

KEEP THE HEID

As we are about to hit the one year mark being an active group, we reflect on the year thats been.

What a journey!

In February when half a dozen of us sat around a table we could never have imagined just how the group has grown.

We set out to break the stigma around mental wellbeing. We set out to create a peer to peer group where guys could feel safe to talk openly on how they felt. To feel safe to talk about their struggles whether it be mood, depression, suicide, low self esteem, grief, abuse, addiction. We wanted to create a group where guys could find connection.
We wanted to lead by example.

We've helped save lives. We've helped people connect and feel worthwhile. We've helped people transform and we've created that safe place for people to know that it's okay not to be okay. We've seen friendships formed and we've something pure and beautiful develop.

We're grateful to those who have helped.

We're honoured to be trusted to take Keep The Heid into Shotts prison to facilitate the group.

We're proud of the work we've achieved as a group and we will continue to create the safe place we have and create connections as we go on.

After the success of moving to every Sunday during December and January, it was obvious there was a need for a group like ours to be running weekly.
So from tomorrow we'll be on every Sunday.

As well as meeting every Sunday for our group, some of the boys meet up during the week at the wee Hub for a run, a cold water dip, a tea, coffee and general blether. Not all take part in the running or cold water dip but it gives guys a chance to get a bit of connection through the week.
These wee midweek meets are usually arranged through our WhatsApp group chat and it's helped guys build friendships and connections with each other.

At Keep The Heid, it's become more than a Sunday g

At Keep The Heid, it's become more than a Sunday get together. Over the last few months we've made plans to meet during the week for runs, walks, cold water dips. Proper connections being made. Real friendships happening. This week some of the team have done a hill climb, went running in preparation for a 10k, done cold water dips on the some of the coldest nights, laughed, supported each other, encouraged each other, listened to each other. Some of the guys done cold water immersion for the first time and felt able to do this with the support and encouragement of the others. Running, walking, dipping and connecting.
